Beautiful Ones,

My monthly 3rd Sunday Salon is this weekend. I’ll play a livestream concert for you because I love you. I also need to sing. Everybody wins. To join me and make a song request, become a paid subscriber. If you already are one, I sincerely appreciate your support of my work. Livestream info is at the bottom. Looking forward to it.

It’ll be my Valentine to you.

Jess Klein's Travelin' Woman is a reader-supported publication and your support keeps me creating. To receive new posts and support my work, consider becoming a free or paid subscriber. Paid subscribers get to come to my monthly livestream concerts/Salons + discounts on my merch and music. Thanks!

“What if I Write?” This is the question my friend, poet, author and community leader Tamika Wells is asking in her soon-to-be-finished Sidewalk Poetry project, sponsored by the City of Winston-Salem, NC.

I love this question. It contains a world of possibility. My answer is, if I write, everything opens up. I see creative possibilities I didn’t before. I remember my own power. Literally, everything feels better.

Natural extensions of “What if I Write” could be: “What if I speak up?”, “What if I open my heart?”, “What if I go ask my neighbor how they’re doing and how I can help?”, “What if I do that thing I always thought was too much for people?”, “What if I believe I am powerful?”

The world needs you. Just as you are. Warts, insecurities and all. Despite the intentional overwhelm we are all being subjected to, we each have the capacity to change something a little bit for the better. When we put that power together collectively, it elevates us collectively.

For example, when I look at Tamika’s project, I feel better. Someone else is doing something uplifting, soulful, maybe even a little subversive. That means I can too.

For folks in Winston-Salem, Tamika says the sidewalk project should be complete in March. If you live somewhere else you think could use some encouraging public poetry like Tamika’s, and especially if you are connected to the officials who fund public art where you are, let her know.

Private Song Coaching
I have some slots open this month and next for private song coaching. If you are wanting to write something or have some unfinished pieces you would like feedback on, I would love to work with you. Reach out to me and let’s set something up.

AUSTIN! I have missed you. But we’re about to rectify that. Join me March 2 at Casa DB for a JK & Friends show. I’ll have my once and future tour mate Jenny Reynolds join us for some songs and I’ll be backed by the ineffable Professor Feathers on some bass, harmonies, and whatever other instruments he loads into his truck that day. Suggested donation is $25. Get tickets HERE:
